The Marine Corps League joined in the celebrations with other Veteran Organizations to celebrate Veterans Day at Graceada Park. MCL019 members manned our tent and handed our free American Flags to all in attendance!
After the parade reached the park, there was a Program at Mancini Bowl hosted by the County Veteran Organizations.

Marines, family and friends gathered at the Stanislaus County Veterans Center to celebrate the 243rd Birthday of our beloved Marine Corps.
The ceremonies commenced with a welcome from Commandant, Mike Pellucca, followed by an Honor Guard provided by the Jr. Navy Seals posting of our Flag and leading us in our National Anthem.
This year included a Live Band and was hosted by our Guest Speaker / Master of Ceremonies, Aaron Bazan. Catered Dinner from Marie Callendar's was excellent and was followed by the traditional USMC Cake Ceremony.
This years Raffle was directed by Diane and Ben Talbet (MCL Auxilary members) and was a great success with almost everyone receiving items.
A GREAT EVENING WAS HAD BY ALL !!!!

The 3rd Annual Stand Down for Homeless and Low Income Veterans was held at Graceada Park, Modesto. The new location made the event far more accessible for our Veterans and included Hot Food, nearly thirty (30) vendors providing information/resources to help our Veterans get back on their feet and restore their pride and dignity !
Veteran Resources at this years event included:
* Hot Meals
* Showers: (provided by Church in the Park)
* Backpacks for Life: (distributed by MCL019)
* Housing assistance.
* Haircuts.
* Veterinary Services: included examination and shots.
* VA Medical & Benefits: including on line benefits enrollment.
and many, many more.....

Our DONATIONS PROGRAM for Homeless Veterans wrapped up with the Stuffing Event which took place at the Stanislaus Veterans Center.
Our volunteers for this annual event came through once again stuffing over 150 Backpacks with Donations of the Essentials (many of which were donated that very morning) including Poncho's, Socks, Emergency Blankets, First Aid Kits, Hats, Gloves and Toiletries.

The Marine Corps League held a Commemorative Luncheon in the Regimental Room of the Marines' Memorial Club (MMC) honoring
John J. Serpa.
John was a WWII Marine recipient of the Purple Heart, Heavy Weight boxing Champion USMC West Coast Div. MCB Camp Pendleton; Honorary National Past Commandant and 1st Captain of the Tracy, CA Police Department.
John Serpa is credited with the personal rescue of Marine Corps League, Detachment #019 and is honored at every MCL019 meeting.
The day included a tour by Col Brendan Kearney, USMC (Ret) including the viewing of the John J Serpa plaque which was recently dedicated at MMC.
We were honored to have fellow Marines from Stockton, the MCL Dept. of California and the Tracy Police Dept. attend.
The 153rd consecutive Scottish Highland Gathering and Games took place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton on Labor Day Weekends (September 1 - 2) 2018.
VIP Guests included Gary Lewis, Chief of Clan MacKenzie in TV's Outlander, and Hafthor "The Mountain" Bjornsson from TV's Game of Thrones. The Scottish culture celebrateion included cuisine, competition and entertainment at its very best.
MCL019 members participated with the Marine Corps League Tent during the entire event.

The 4th Annual Toys for Tots Car Show was held this year at the corner of McHenry Avenue and Standiford Ave.
This years venue included DJ, Food, Vendors, Raffle and Awards. Over 180n Vehicles participated in this years event!

In recognition of their outstanding academic dedication and performance three (3) local students, about to enter their higher educational institutions, were awarded our first scholarship grants. As the final step in the award process, each candidate and their sponsor made a presentation to the Scholarship Committee as their final step prior to being awarded their grant. Members of the Marine Corps League congratulated each recipient and celebrated their committment to Community and Country!

At our 1st Marine Corps League sponsored game, the Modesto Nuts had a monster 5th inning scoring 7 runs and resulting in a 9 - 5 win against the Lake Elsinore Storm at John Thurman Field, Modesto, CA.
Great night of Fun was had by all with Family, Friends and fellow Marines!
Jim Laurente threw a STRIKE (thats what he told us!) for the 1st pitch; our Veteran of the Game, Jerry Sarkovics, was awarded his one-of-a-kind Nuts All American Jersey; our Paymaster, Ken Shaffer, was live interviewed and the "Marine Corps League" Logo was flashed and announced to all present on the Jumbo Score Board.
MCL#019 and Toys-for-Tots Tents were busy on the concourse providing Veterans and Baseball fans with raffle tickets and new literature promoting our organization.

The 86th Annual Marine Corps League Convention was held in Clovis, CA and was co-hosted by Fresno - Det#914 and our own Modesto - Det#019. Twenty One Detachments were present at the Convention.

Friday, June 15th was punctuated by several Breakout Training sessions including:
Paymasters:
updating paymasters manualon Forms, Rosters, & Membership.
Leadership:
reviewing the responsibilities of each Detachment Officer and offering excellent recommendations for execution of those responsibilities.
Marketing & Communications:
discussions included Website development, Facebook standards and recommendations for development of Events to promote visibility for the Marine Corps League.
Saturday, June 16th was the General Convention Session including the election of new Board of Trustees and Staff Officers for the Department of California. They are:
Ray Valenzuela , Commandant
Matt Valenzuela , Sr. Vice Commandant
Jim Loorya, Jr. Vice Commandant
Rod MacKenzie, Judge Advocate
Staff Officer appointments were announced with most positions continuing with last years officers. One Notable announcement was appointment of Mike Pelucca, Sergeant -At-Arms.

By-Law Amendments:
membership voted to reverse the prior years amendment establishing two(2) District Vice Commandants (DVC) (DVC, North / DVC, South).
The Convention ended with the State Banquet featuring guest speakers Alex Fabros (USMC 1965 - 1971) and Thomas Morton (USMC 1966 - 1969) . Both of these Vietnam Veterans provided unique presentations of their life experiences.
Det#019 members were active in the Raffle Room throughout the Conference. Details on the results should be available at the next Detachment meeting on May 5, 2018.
Festival opened with a Flag Retirement ceremony and over 100 Vendors offering food/drinks/snacks; Crafts, Farmers Market and lots of Children's entertainment including Petting Zoo, Games, Face Painting and Pony rides and a FREE make your own ice cream booth !
The 2018 Car Show was held on Sunday and features a great array of both cars and trucks.
Looking forward to 2019!!
APRIL 14 & 15, 2018
MCL019 participated in the annual Oakdale Rodeo placing our Pop-Up Tent on the grounds to represent the Marine Corps League.
Saturday, April 14th
The festivities included Barrel Racing Slack, the Oakdale Rodeo Parade and continued through the day culminating with the Oakdale Rodeo Dance.
Sunday, April 15th
The day began with Cowboy Church finished with the action packed PRCA 2nd Rodeo Performance.
American Veterans First and the Marine Corps League hosted their first joint CHILI COOK OFF on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
Although Chili became in short supply, the day was was ultimately due to Members who came to the rescue with their own late Chili entries. MCL019 members were the backbone team making this event a success.

Marine West is co-sponsored by the Marine Corps League and held at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton.
Marine commands throughout Southern California sent delegations to visit this annual exposition. Marine West Expo showcases the latest technology and prototypes aimed at preparing today’s Marines for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century. EXPO included product displays by many commercial vendors seeking feedback by active duty marines to evaluate and recommend opinions on their products.

The Tracy Airport Association and Welcome Home Heroes Foundation hosted the dedication of the Tracy Airport "Pilots Lounge" honoring U.S. Marine Corps, Cpl. Michael D. Anderson Jr. and U.S. Marine Corps, Lance Cpl. Brandon C. Dewey who were (KIA) Killed In Action.
These ceremonies were very well attended and included several Fly-bys, multiple civilian and military aircraft Fly-in's and a BBQ Lunch.
The Dedication Ceremony included multiple speakers, including dignitaries from the city of Tracy, San Joaquin county and the U.S. Congress all recognizing the two heroes being honored. Plaques and certificates commemorating the event were presented to members of the Fallen Marine Families.
